Audley Group, the UK’s leading provider of luxury retirement villages, has announced it has secured planning approval on the Audley Villages site at Scarcroft, West Yorkshire.

Scarcroft Park, as the village will be known, is Audley Group’s third in Yorkshire and is at the heart of the desirable ‘Golden Triangle’ formed by Ilkley, Harrogate and York. The approval permits the demolition of the 70,000 square foot 1970s office block and the development of an Audley Villages scheme consisting of 172 retirement units and nine residential units.

The planning approval also includes the sympathetic restoration of the dilapidated Grade II listed Scarcroft Lodge, built in 1830, allowing it to be converted into the home of the Audley Club which will offer owners and the local community a restaurant, health spa with hydrotherapy pool, gym and wellness studios. Once complete, the village will also offer delivery of care to owners and members of the local community through Audley Care, Audley’s stand-alone Care Quality Commission-registered care provider.

Approximately 65 local jobs will be created across the construction and operational phases. Scarcroft Cricket Club currently rents a cricket pitch and pavilion on the site and the club will remain in the location as part of the development.

Kevin Shaw, Managing Director, Audley Group, said “Scarcroft Park will be a superb addition to the Audley portfolio, and continues our heritage of restoring beautiful buildings to give them a new lease of life both for Audley owners and the wider community. It also demonstrates our commitment to Yorkshire and we are very pleased to bring the Audley way of life to more people in the local area.”

John Nettleton, Group Land Director, Audley Group, said: “This is a stunning site and our plans for the village as a whole, including the restoration of Scarcroft Lodge, were met by unaninmous approval from the council’s planning committee. This continues our 100% success rate in securing planning, which is testament both to the team’s ability to identify suitable sites but moreover the recognition from local authorities that they need to encourage retirement living schemes to help manage the housing challenges in their communities.”

The villages that sit under the Audley Villages brand will, when completed, provide at least 2,000 units nationwide.
