WHAT IS DOMICILIARY CARE OR RESIDENTIAL CARE?

If you would prefer to stay in your own home and have no plans to downsize to a retirement village, one or more carers (or nurses) can provide at-home personalised care, also known as domiciliary care or residential care.

Domiciliary or residential care can include help with shopping, preparing meals, bathing, getting in and out of bed, caring for a pet, dressing, and other support services tailored to your needs.

HOMECARE COSTS: Home care requirements vary according to your individual needs, as will the cost. It might be anything from an hour a day to 24-hour assistance and may be offered on a temporary, intermittent or long-term basis.

Your options with Audley Care

At Audley, we develop beautiful villages encompassing luxury properties, a health club and facilities all designed for the older generation, with care and support on hand. Our carers also travel to homes in the local area, providing support on a 'only pay for the services you use' basis. ADVANTAGES OF HOME CARE

  • Independence: you can stay in your own home and continue living comfortably in your own surroundings.
  • Qualified support: you may not like the idea of care workers coming into your home, but without that support you may need to rely more on family and friends which can strain relationships.
  • Ease: there is no need to sell your home so you can keep it as an asset.
  • Personalised care plan: the care plan is tailored to your needs. Visiting carers can provide the help you require or just keep you company, take you to a local day centre where you can socialise and enjoy activities with others, assist you with house chores, providing you as much or as little support as you need.
  • Lifestyle: you can stay close to your family, friends and all that’s familiar to you.
  • Care plan costs: with home care you only pay for the care you need, drawing on help as and when you need it.

LIMITATIONS OF HOME CARE

  • Lifestyle: unlike retirement villages or other sheltered accommodation, if you choose to stay in your own residential home you may not be in contact with peers, so loneliness may be a factor.
  • Accommodation: as your needs change, your home may no longer be suited to your physical capabilities. At an Audley luxury retirement village, the buildings, facilities and teams are all designed with an ageing population in mind, as are all integrated retirement communities.
  • Access to care: despite alarm systems and regular visits from carers, you can still be more vulnerable in the event of an emergency than living somewhere with around-the-clock care.
  • Facilities: depending on where you live, you may need to compromise on leisure activities and your lifestyle.
  • Finances: you remain responsible for general upkeep and household maintenance. If you need to modify your home this can be costly, unsightly and can affect the value of your property.
  • Peace of mind: family and friends may worry more when you are left alone in your house. Family and friends say the worry factor is lessened when they know their loved one has care and support nearby.
